It’s eating disorders awareness week this week and this time of year holds a very special place in my heart💜
Eat With Knowledge is on a mission to help people heal from disordered eating and feel fabulous about food. I have my own story of recovery that I shared on Food Psych podcast with Christy Harrison a little over a year ago.
That experience truly made me realize that there should be no shame in struggling with disordered eating and if sharing my story could help just one person it would be worth it! I’m happy to have received so much positive feedback back then, leading by example that ED recovery is possible– even if the journey is truly hard, filled with many ups and downs.
There are so many things to share during this important week but perhaps the most important fact is that eating disorders can happen to anyone. The theme of the year is “Lets Get Real” and I really love this theme. Human beings have eating disorders. All genders, races, sizes, backgrounds, ANYONE. Eating disorders can happen for all sorts of “reasons” and not one thing or person or family is to blame. Early detection is key. If you or someone you know is struggling with disordered eating, don’t wait to get help. This is a good place to start to get screened for disordered eating behavior, taken from the NEDA website.
If you want more information on “how to help”, this resource is amazing for families, coaches, treatment providers, schools, and the workplace.
I also wrote a blog post with organizations, books, courses, and podcasts to support ED recovery. I’m happy to admit it’s outdated and there is even more out there now. Stay tuned for that update 🙂
Follow me on social media this week as I bring more awareness to eating disorders and also celebrate eating disorder recovery 💜
If you are a client (or past client) please know I am thinking about you this week and sending you strength and encouragement. My clients are some of the strongest people I know. Everyday they fight to recover to a world that supports dieting and sometimes encourages disordered eating behavior. My clients are the reason why I am so passionate about what I do. I see eating disorder treatment WORK and celebrate the hard work that clients do to recover. My clients are resilient and I am so honored to be a part of your journey.
If you need anything at all during this week I would love to support you in anyway that I can. Call me, text me, or email me back!! I am here for you and sending love to all people affected by eating disorders💜
