I am so passionate about helping dietitians develop skills to become the best healthcare professional they can be and to grow professionally to reach their career goals. I offer clinical supervision to dietitians interested in training for eating disorders, intuitive eating and exercise, body image, and my own program that I developed based on my nutrition philosophy, the Knowledgeable Eating program. I also offer business coaching and resources to dietitians wanting to start and grow a private practice.

We will work together to first assess your needs for supervision and/or business coaching and form an action plan tailored for you. Supervision can be short-term or an ongoing relationship depending on your situation. It’s generally recommended that professionals receive supervision minimally once per month. Supervision is set up to help professionals reflect and assess about areas they need support, and get answers and resources for these issues. Some of the most popular topics include:

  1. Assessment of overall nutrition patterns in clients, especially for clients with active eating disorders and disordered eating
  2. Language and dialogue appropriate for sensitives around weight-inclusive wellness
  3. Assessment of client’s thoughts and behaviors related to nutrition and health
  4. Education to increase your confidence in building relationships with clients
  5. Review of clinical case studies and treatment recommendations
  6. Access to business-savvy resources and exactly what you need to start and grow a private practice
  7. Skills to find your community, network with professionals, and increase referrals
  8. Tips to find your counseling style and keep clients coming back
  9. How to effectively work with treatment teams
  10. Work/life balance (or as I like to say work/life satisfaction!) This also includes processing feelings toward clients, assessing burnout, and setting career goals.

I also offer training for students and can provide advice about the dietetic internship. It’s never too early to explore education, work experience, and job advice in dietetics!

Packages:

I offer individual sessions, as well as session packages for long-term supervision. All sessions are 45 minutes and are by appointment only. I do offer email support in between sessions, but note longer responses may be saved for our next appointment together. Packages are provided for long-term supervision, and also include access to group supervision conference calls once/month (I will limit this call to no more than 4 participants at one time so I ask that you sign up in advance to reserve your space). Group calls will start in the fall.

Supervision policies: As with all the work I do, the information discussed is always confidential. I do have a 48 hour cancellation notice with all appointments, including supervision, and will charge full-fee if supervision is rescheduled or canceled less than 48 hours ahead of time.

FAQ

How do I know if I’m a good fit for your practice?

*I would first start out by reading our nutrition philosophy and our blog posts to see if our philosophy matches what you need. You can also see some of the messages we support on our social media feeds: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram. We fully understand that we are a perfect match for some people and not a match for others. The most important aspect of finding a healthcare professional is open, honest communication. We want you to get what you’re looking for, even if it’s not with us (but we hope it is!)

I’m not local but I really want to see you. What do I do?

*I would love to see virtual clients but at this time I am only seeing clients in-person in my Nyack, NY office. The KNOWledgeable Eating Program will give you access to all of my nutrition teachings and is the next best thing to an in-person session with me: coming soon!

How often and how long will I have to see you?

*It depends on what’s going on and will be completely individualized to your situation. When we are establishing a relationship and getting to know you, we like to see you weekly for at least a month, if not longer. Depending on your situation, we typically see clients weekly or every other week when we are actively working together (we offer different appointment lengths/charges to be accommodating). We work with clients short-term and long-term. We have long-term relationships with many clients who see us less frequently.

I really want to lose weight but I don’t want to diet. But it seems like you don’t do “weight loss” counseling?

*We hear this all the time! So often people are living in a body they are not comfortable with. We are absolutely ready to have this conversation with you and we want to hear all about your feelings and concerns with your weight. No, we do not do “weight loss counseling” but we will work on your relationship with food and your body, while addressing all of your nutrition concerns.

I have other medical issues other than an eating disorder. Can I still see you?

*Absolutely. As dietitians we are trained in Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) meaning we have knowledge and understanding about all different diseases and medical conditions. We do specialize in eating disorders, disordered eating, and intuitive eating so the majority of our work will be in those areas. However, we can absolutely address other conditions and keep MNT recommendations in mind. If we cannot handle your request for whatever reason we are happy to try to find a dietitian who can see you.

How does it work if you don’t take insurance?

*We are out-of-network insurance providers meaning we take payment up front and give you a superbill to submit for insurance reimbursement. We recommend you contact your insurance company to see what benefits your plan may have regarding Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) coverage.  Your physician might have to write a referral, it will depend on your insurance company (but know the referral does not guarantee that nutrition therapy will be covered by your insurance company). Call the phone number for customer service which is usually located on the back of your insurance card. Ask if MNT is a covered benefits based upon your plan and diagnosis. The procedure codes we use for MNT are: 97802 (initial assessment) and 97803 (follow-up assessment). The diagnosis code used will depend on your situation.

*I was an extremely motivated nutrition student and understand the need for internships and experience in the field! I have offered internships to many nutrition students in the past. At this time, I’m currently not taking anyone for an internship but will be proud to offer a student rate for the KE Program in 2018 (email me for the code).
