Pros and Cons of Hello Fresh

As a busy mom, it is sometimes really hard to get dinner on the table!! I have wanted to try a meal delivery service for awhile now and when my friend Lauren gave me a coupon for a free trial week of Hello Fresh I jumped on it!  A meal delivery service is NOT a diet program or a meal replacement program.  Rather, it’s a program that will send you and your family the ingredients to prep and cook a certain number of meals per week.  The meals always have a carb/protein/veggie but they have “classic”, “family”, and “vegetarian” options. If you’re looking for other programs, I have also heard good things about Blue Apron, Plated, and Sun Basket.

Here are some of my favorite meals!

Examples include:

Italian Ciabatta Burgers with Mozzarella Cheese and Sweet-and-Tangy Salad

Chicken and Pineapple Quesadillas with Sweet Peppers, Caramelized Onion, and Pico de Gallo

Baked Fusilli Pasta with Kale and Fresh Mozzarella Cheese

Sesame Shrimp with Ginger Scallion Rice and Crispy Green Beans

Italian Sausage and Mushrooms with Israeli Couscous, Spinach, and Parmesan Cheese

Jamie Oliver’s Chicken Skewers with Bulgar Wheat Salad and Lemony Yogurt

Roasted Pork Tenderloin with Potato Cauliflower Mash and Caramelized-Apple Pan Sauce

Just to name a few!!!

PROS: Fast, easy-to-follow recipes that are already in your fridge when you need them.  Most of the dishes have been really flavorful!! Meals are balanced and always have a protein, starch, and veggie.  They give you a choice of 6 meals and you get to pick 4 so you can honor your own taste and flavor preferences. I also LOVE that they have a dietitian on staff, Rebecca Lewis!! I got to meet her in person at FNCE and she was awesome. I love that dietitians can do so many different things.

CONS: You really should schedule the box to come to your house on a day where you are home.  They pack it well with ice bags but the only time where I wasn’t home for a good 5+ hours after the box was delivered, the items were a little warmer than my liking. Ever since then, the delivery of the box is something I have to double check with my schedule.  I haven’t loved a few of the dishes too but that is always based on taste preference.

Well, fast forward a few months and I am now a somewhat regular costumer!  I signed up to be a RD ambassador of the program so in full disclosure, I did receive a box of 3 meals through them too for free.  You can sign up at Hello Fresh and use the code ECCKTK which will allow you to take $40 off your first box and I will get a credit too.  I love this service and will continue to be a customer during busy, hectic weeks where I do not have time to meal plan!
